    How are sunspots formed, and how long can they last?

    Hi!

    Sunspots are formed when regions at regions of strong magnetic field at the Sun's surface. HEating is suppressed by the strong fields, so these regions are cooler, and so appear darker. Sunspots typically last for several days, but can last for several weeks if they are very large.
