Hi Raymond,
I became a scientist because I think the way that math can be used to describe our world is amazing and I wanted to study that more. I am also fascinated by figuring out how things work and why our world is the way it is. These are the main reasons I became a scientist.
I really enjoyed doing science in graduate school (six years after college). But when I got a job doing science, even though I enjoyed the science part, I did not really feel satisfied by the interaction with other scientists around me. I found more enjoyment from working with teachers and other educators to share the joys of science and so I transferred to a job where I only do a little bit of research with some scientists who like to collaborate, and the rest of the time I spend working with teachers, students, and the public, including working on web pages. I like this arrangement very much. I like both that I can still do some science but I also get to work with people more.
