Hi!
The Sun is made mostly of Hydrogen and Helium gas, but also contains all sorts of "heavier" materials such as Iron and Magnesium. The stars we see at night are like the Sun in that they are all hot balls of gas only very far away so they appear as bright points. Some of them are hotter, some cooler than the Sun, some bigger, some smaller. Our Sun is actually very average in terms of its size, temperature, and age.
cheers,
Sarah
